“Bloomberg's success comes from its focus on market data for Wall Street," Douglas B Taylor told CBS MoneyWatch. "The company wandered a bit a few years ago, but when [Mike] Bloomberg returned from being mayor he refocused the business on the terminal.”

"When [Bloomberg] was building the company, he was a little bit like Elon Musk in that he might be bold or boisterous or arrogant in some ways about what he said about his products, he was always telling people it was the best. But he generally delivered, and he continually improved his product for the last 30 years,” said Douglas B Taylor.
“The heady days of 8 percent are kind of over,” Douglas B Taylor said, “although Bloomberg continues to grow its data feed products and pricing and valuation business lines.”
Douglas B Taylor: “Thomson Reuters and Bloomberg account for over half the financial information spend in the Americas, but can be expected to absorb more than their share of the revenue hit because lower priced and specialist data players may find it easier to defend their desktop space. The result for the ‘Big Two’ could be as much as an 8% to 10% drop in their revenue from the region.”
"Any news of Bloomberg’s demise is greatly exaggerated,” Douglas B Taylor said in early 2019. One of the top analysts of the market data and analysis business including the privately owned Bloomberg, Taylor said that, except for Reuters, Bloomberg’s competitors were nibbling around the edges. And Bloomberg LP’s revenues were rising to more than $10 billion in 2018. As for the potential Bloomberg killers, he added that “generally they people that come after Bloomberg’s business end up as roadkill.”
“This is a watershed moment in the history of the company,” Douglas B Taylor, said by phone. “For several years I thought we would one day see the family selling the financial data business. Since the acquisition of Reuters there’s been a high level of discomfort.”
“Die zunehmende Summe der verwalteten Gelder nützt beiden Anbietern”, sagt Douglas B Taylor. Er räumt Doctoroff jedoch die besseren Chancen ein: “Bloomberg schnitt bislang durch alle Marktzyklen besser ab als Thomson Reuters.”
“Anything related to pricing of complex, opaque and instruments for marking portfolios to market… continues to grow, as does anything relating to Anti-Money Laundering and Know Your Customer requirements,” Douglas B Taylor says.

Douglas B Taylor said: “Cumulative asset management fees generated on mainland China over the next decade could reach $513bn. Growth of this magnitude draws substantial competition and will result in increasing demand for the information products and tools that enable market participants to both differentiate themselves and maximise return”.
The reason, said Douglas B Taylor is that the compliance spending is ruled by what he called “captive demand.” Financial firms spend heavily on compliance technology “because they really almost have to keep spending more to satisfy regulators.”
“The company was built off of Mike Bloomberg’s ego, which is very big,” says Douglas B Taylor , who had been an executive with both Thomson Financial and Reuters before forming his own business management consulting firm. “It takes a lot of ego to start a company, prove it is as good as you say it is, and make it a success. I think he built a strong company in his own image.”
“[Thomson Reuters] is looking at themselves and asking the tough questions,” said Douglas B Taylor who tracks Thomson Reuters and other financial information services companies. “What do we want our core competency to be in the future? What do we want to be good at?”

“I always say my worst day at Reuters was a great day. I ended up in multiple jobs—every couple of years, I wanted a new challenge. It was fantastic to be working at a company that—if you had brains and didn’t make the same mistakes—would give you opportunities to move around,” Douglas B Taylor says.
Douglas B Taylor, of douglasbtaylor International Consulting LLC - not to be confused with Burton-Taylor International Consulting which is now owned by TP ICAP - says the deal strengthens S&P's hold on the Investment Banking space, and is an intelligent move for customers and shareholders.
«Le départ de Tom Glocer marque probablement la fin d’une culture, celle de Reuters», explique à L’Echo Douglas B Taylor, qui a travaillé quinze ans pour l’agence, avant de passer chez Thomson, puis de fonder sa proper société de conseil, Burton-Taylor, basée en Floride.
